This mornings toilet walk involves a throw back to the 90’s with a scrunchie hair band! … it’s around Lloris’s left leg.

There is a reason behind this fashion faux pas - honestly!

It has been reccomended that by putting a scrunchie around his strong leg it could make him in-turn look to his right leg (the weaker leg) for stability.

Worth a try, let’s see if it has made any difference on the first attempt?…

Hmmm it does actually look a little better… I think … but alas it doesn’t last and the bendy right leg soon starts dragging and we’re left with poorly scuffed paws. Poor little pup. We shall persevere with the scrunchie and see if it has any long term effects (other than being bullied for poor taste) after a few days.

Oh my poor baby boy’s paws 🐾

No time for a bath this morning so he’s in the shower to clean the dirt from his injured paw. He’s not impressed but soon full of cuddles again, in fact he’s been one big cuddly teddy bear all day today!! …. Clearly he knows what’s coming next!!!

Shower Time! - not happy

It is our third session of acupuncture this afternoon and I am hopeful Lloris will last a full 20 minutes with the needles in him rather than just the 10minutes he has managed for the two weeks prior.

He gets bored and agitated. He’s not good at concentrating for long. A little like the disruptive child at school that always gets sent to the head master!

With all of the different treatments we are exploring alongside straight forward physio, such as the infared laser, pulsed electro magnetic field therapy, Alessi loop, hydro therapy and acupuncture and herbs; Lloris has progressed phenomenally well in a short space of time.

I believe it to be a combination of everything collectively that is having such positive affects. It is always exciting when a next ‘weekly session’ comes around to see what developments the treatment may bring to Lloris’s progress this week.

On my wish list for this week is:

  1. completely solve his incontinence (we are 90% there!)

  2. Realign his right leg so he stops scuffing his foot.

Let’s hope ‘The Holistic Vet’ can work his magic to help us improve with these two things!

At last weeks session we walked through the door with Lloris ‘sling walking’ (me helping to hold up his rear end with a sling under his belly) AND he was still piddling with little control and I had to put a nappy on him to contain it.

I am expecting Dr Van den Berge to be very impressed when he sees Lloris walk through the door unaided this week! I am also hoping to impressive him with no marking of the territory. Let’s see…

Good boy Lloris - these needles are not so scary!

Another positive session and Lloris was chilled out and on his best behaviour.

Guess What?!?! NO ACCIDENTS!!

He was initially wrongly accused of creating a puddle of pee in the waiting area but that honestly wasn’t him! They are forgiven for pointing the finger though. He only has himself to blame for his ‘piddle pants’ reputation!

A big thank you to his ‘Aunty Steph and Cousin Jessica for surprising him with some chews to keep him occupied! He’s thrilled! …

And thank you to his biggest supporter Neil the Sparky who popped into the office to see him today and he of course lapped up all of the attention! … Lloris enjoyed it too! Haha

(Neil; I forgot to get a photo of the two of you!!)

We have an early start tomorrow with our physio reassessment at where he had his surgery (Davies Vets).

I just hope they are pleased with his progress!

Haha, Cheeky! 😉. It was really good to see Lloris in the flesh for the first time post op ☺️. Miracle pup is well on his way to full recovery with his Mum firmly behind him doing everything possible to make it happen in record time!

THANK YOU’s

Whilst it goes without saying that a big chunk of credit for Lloris’s rehabilitation to being a walking puppy dog again goes unquestionably to him! There have been many helping hands along the way that are more than deserving of a mention …

Thank you to;

Davies Vet (Johnny & Alex) for their remarkable surgery, prompt action and after care. He came home a calm and happy dog…even if his legs weren’t working…his wound has healed remarkably well without scaring.

To Dr Rinnert van den Bergh - The Holistic Vet who never raised an eyebrow at his little accidents and always progressed him further after every treatment.  Lloris is especially grateful for the liver paste you would win him over with!

To Nisha from Paws & Hooves - Hydrotherapy.  You have been remarkable in your patience with Lloris. Thank you for answering the phone when many others didn’t that day.  Finding you was meant to be.

To Willow Vets in Newport Pagnell who took Lloris on as a new case for his cancer straight away and operated within two days. The entire team of staff have been nothing but kind and professional and whilst Lloris will continue to hate you all (hate may be a bit of strong word…. But I’m not so sure?!) I on the other hand think you are all amazing.

To his Uncle Cristian for building his ‘Frenchie Bouncer’ was a big game changer in our rehab!

To his Grandad for building his Pig Pen which he has grown to love

To his Nanny for his the daily love and company not to mention the endless cleaning of him and my house!  We truly couldn’t have got through this without you, you gave me the break I needed to keep my sanity.

To Matt the Chippy for his back door ramp!

To the IVDD Facebook support group.  I learned so much from you. https://www.facebook.com/groups/178483559398659/?ref=share

To my friends and family who reached out to help me. Everyone of you that messaged, read our blog and paid an interest in both his and my well being made such a difference on both the dark days and the light.   Lloris loves people so the visits and gifts all lifted his spirits and snapped him out of the sulks!

To Dan, Lloris’s dad. You stepped up when he needed you the most and answered our cry for help to get him to the hospital that day.  It will always be a shame we couldn’t stay the family unit we had wanted for him. We certainly tried!  Thank you for letting him live with me, I can’t imagine the heartache of giving him up.

To the friend in my life that gave me focus from day 1 when I asked for help bringing him home … he said something like  “I have the dentist so can’t help you that day, I would if I could but … you’re going to have to get used to handling him and lugging him about on your own, so you may as well just get on with it now”. I thought he was being an unhelpful arse at the time but actually that was the best piece of advice I could have been given. Man up and get on with it.  You can’t turn back time or change anything. You are where you are, so take a deep breath and in the words of Nike - Just do it.

And that we did!
