Last night a group of girl friends came over as a belated birthday celebration but as it was also officially ‘Freedom Day’ for Lloris from crate rest, it was a bit of a joint party.

Lloris decided to mark ‘Freedom Day’ by deciding to take himself down the stairs (WHAT!?!!) to greet everyone. Not just once but three times! Each time giving me one of the ‘stunned me to silence moments’, when you can’t get there quick enough to stop him and you‘re almost closing your eyes with your fingers crossed!

Up until now he has shown absolutely no interest in tackling the stairs at all, he has just been waiting at the top for me to carry him down.

Thankfully he was still happy to wait at the bottom to be carried back up each time though!

I can take these stairs! You just watch me! Eeek!

Cheeky little pooch he shall do himself an injury!

I think he must have been paying attention yesterday when I asked the physio if climbing up and down stairs would ever be an option for him in the future and the response was;

“The idea of surgery in these cases is to try to return them to exactly how they were before, so stairs a couple of times a day in a controlled way, i.e: not racing up and down, would be fine.”

I just wasn’t ready for this to be so soon! Think I shall get that stair gate put up to restrict him for a little longer.

I would like to say he was a good boy at the party and he was very cute and adorable and of course everyone loved him BUT;

My friend Lotty came early with some decorations to put up. Out comes the bunting and we are just working out it’s positioning. As we lay it on the floor for literally seconds whilst I grab some tape, Lloris jumps on it and piddles all over it. Guess decorations are over rated then!

He then manages to dribble pee over his Aunty Mirelle as she carries him up the stairs.

We then have squealing and peeing going on in his pen as everyone is arriving.

Once he’s over the excitement of seeing everyone, he spends the majority of the night being cute, sat on my lap for cuddles watching everyone chatter and he’s snoozing away; sending my legs numb! He is certainly not a lap dog!

Cramping mummy’s style - in the best possible way!

He finished the night in disgrace by wolfing down some left over chicken and repaying me with a puddle of pea on the kitchen floor.

Sorry mummy but that chicken was Goooood!

It was like we have gone back a week on the incontinence! I should however be grateful no no.2’s made an appearance whilst we were tucking into the birthday cake!

Now for today. It’s wet and miserable out. Against my better judgement, we’ve had breakfast inside this morning followed by peeing on the kitchen floor. So today is definitely also NOT an accident free day.

I decide to try out his balloon sock around the house to see if he can actually walk in it. After I WWF wrestling him to the floor I finally get the thing on him!

And he’s away! We shall test it outside tomorrow!

Tomorrow we have a busy day lined up making a start on all of the new exercises he has been given. Fingers crossed he behaves for them!

Ps: Lloris is a star! Following our visit to the pub on Sunday he’s made their ‘Show Reel’ I always thought he had the face and personality for the movies! Maybe I need to think about getting him an agent

THANK YOU’s

Whilst it goes without saying that a big chunk of credit for Lloris’s rehabilitation to being a walking puppy dog again goes unquestionably to him! There have been many helping hands along the way that are more than deserving of a mention …

Thank you to;

Davies Vet (Johnny & Alex) for their remarkable surgery, prompt action and after care. He came home a calm and happy dog…even if his legs weren’t working…his wound has healed remarkably well without scaring.

To Dr Rinnert van den Bergh - The Holistic Vet who never raised an eyebrow at his little accidents and always progressed him further after every treatment.  Lloris is especially grateful for the liver paste you would win him over with!

To Nisha from Paws & Hooves - Hydrotherapy.  You have been remarkable in your patience with Lloris. Thank you for answering the phone when many others didn’t that day.  Finding you was meant to be.

To Willow Vets in Newport Pagnell who took Lloris on as a new case for his cancer straight away and operated within two days. The entire team of staff have been nothing but kind and professional and whilst Lloris will continue to hate you all (hate may be a bit of strong word…. But I’m not so sure?!) I on the other hand think you are all amazing.

To his Uncle Cristian for building his ‘Frenchie Bouncer’ was a big game changer in our rehab!

To his Grandad for building his Pig Pen which he has grown to love

To his Nanny for his the daily love and company not to mention the endless cleaning of him and my house!  We truly couldn’t have got through this without you, you gave me the break I needed to keep my sanity.

To Matt the Chippy for his back door ramp!

To the IVDD Facebook support group.  I learned so much from you. https://www.facebook.com/groups/178483559398659/?ref=share

To my friends and family who reached out to help me. Everyone of you that messaged, read our blog and paid an interest in both his and my well being made such a difference on both the dark days and the light.   Lloris loves people so the visits and gifts all lifted his spirits and snapped him out of the sulks!

To Dan, Lloris’s dad. You stepped up when he needed you the most and answered our cry for help to get him to the hospital that day.  It will always be a shame we couldn’t stay the family unit we had wanted for him. We certainly tried!  Thank you for letting him live with me, I can’t imagine the heartache of giving him up.

To the friend in my life that gave me focus from day 1 when I asked for help bringing him home … he said something like  “I have the dentist so can’t help you that day, I would if I could but … you’re going to have to get used to handling him and lugging him about on your own, so you may as well just get on with it now”. I thought he was being an unhelpful arse at the time but actually that was the best piece of advice I could have been given. Man up and get on with it.  You can’t turn back time or change anything. You are where you are, so take a deep breath and in the words of Nike - Just do it.

And that we did!
