He was so shattered last night from his over exertion of walking around the office during the day that he took himself to bed early. I’m quite enjoying him having his own little bedroom these days (his Pig Pen).

If I could say a one and only positive that has come from this experience is that I now have my bed back. No longer is a french bulldog star fishing in the middle every night . He has pushed me completely out of bed a couple of times and it was only the two of us in a superking! They were some harsh and unwelcomed awakenings! Ouch

Life before surgery: Lloris star fishing - that’s the life!

The point to my reflection back on last night is yet another story of toilet humor. Apologies.

He will always be sure to let me know when he’s off to his ‘bedroom’ as he likes to be tucked in, then he will sleep beautifully. If I don’t do that he will squeal all night like he’s been abandoned. Such a baby! (but I of course love it really!)

I start straightening his blanket and am thinking, “it’s a bit stinky over here”. I only changed his bed yesterday?? …. As I flip the blanket back, there it is!

He’s pooped. Presumably the night before and covered it up! When I ask him What is this I’ve found?“ In the most sternest of tones I can muster… he’s precedes to piddle on the other half of the blank then go and sit by the door of his pen as if waiting for me to change his bed before he’s going to get back in it!

Oh I had to laugh. I’m being totally ‘played’ by a french bulldog! I Certainly wasn’t expecting to uncover that little unwelcome surprise during our bedtime cuddles! I’ll be finding naughty mags under his mattress next! ’Threenagers’ huh?!

Back to stories of rehabilitation!

I’d like to be reporting right now that as of today toilet accidents are a thing of the past but sadly we are not quite there.

Whilst practising our walking on slippy floor this morning he managed to piddle as he walked, seemingly unaware, until the floor beneath him then turned to an ice skating rink!

Second attempt once all cleaned up! Not bad at all !

He’s still doing incredibly well this morning! I’ve not seen him scoot once!

We head off for the park for a change of scenery. I never ever expected to be at this stage on Day 16. In fact, if you would have asked me only a few days ago I would have said we are nowhere near!!

I want to see how he fairs on grass. Hopefully an easier terrain to gain some walking confidence on.

…and he’s off!

He’s still walking like he’s been kicked out of the pub at last orders on a Friday night, but he is absolutely loving being out at the park.

We have been walking around now for around 15minutes which is way longer than I was expecting to have him out for! But every time I steer him back toward the car, he wants to skip off in the opposite direction.

His right paw really is looking weak in his walk and although he’s not scuffing it as badly as a couple of days ago, he has still managed to catch it and make it bleed a little.

Now home for a nice soak in the tub to clean off all that dirt and to relax those muscles … followed by his absolute favourite thing after a bath … a cuddle dry!

We do love a cuddle dry!

Lloris is in a funny mood today. Clearly still buzzing from his ‘park run’, so getting him to calm down and do his physio is easier said than done.

This is a little clip of his cheekiness. We are supposed to be practicing his nice sit and stretch pose for his posture … he’s messing around to start with but then gives me a perfect display. I swear this pup is part human!

THANK YOU’s

Whilst it goes without saying that a big chunk of credit for Lloris’s rehabilitation to being a walking puppy dog again goes unquestionably to him! There have been many helping hands along the way that are more than deserving of a mention …

Thank you to;

Davies Vet (Johnny & Alex) for their remarkable surgery, prompt action and after care. He came home a calm and happy dog…even if his legs weren’t working…his wound has healed remarkably well without scaring.

To Dr Rinnert van den Bergh - The Holistic Vet who never raised an eyebrow at his little accidents and always progressed him further after every treatment.  Lloris is especially grateful for the liver paste you would win him over with!

To Nisha from Paws & Hooves - Hydrotherapy.  You have been remarkable in your patience with Lloris. Thank you for answering the phone when many others didn’t that day.  Finding you was meant to be.

To Willow Vets in Newport Pagnell who took Lloris on as a new case for his cancer straight away and operated within two days. The entire team of staff have been nothing but kind and professional and whilst Lloris will continue to hate you all (hate may be a bit of strong word…. But I’m not so sure?!) I on the other hand think you are all amazing.

To his Uncle Cristian for building his ‘Frenchie Bouncer’ was a big game changer in our rehab!

To his Grandad for building his Pig Pen which he has grown to love

To his Nanny for his the daily love and company not to mention the endless cleaning of him and my house!  We truly couldn’t have got through this without you, you gave me the break I needed to keep my sanity.

To Matt the Chippy for his back door ramp!

To the IVDD Facebook support group.  I learned so much from you. https://www.facebook.com/groups/178483559398659/?ref=share

To my friends and family who reached out to help me. Everyone of you that messaged, read our blog and paid an interest in both his and my well being made such a difference on both the dark days and the light.   Lloris loves people so the visits and gifts all lifted his spirits and snapped him out of the sulks!

To Dan, Lloris’s dad. You stepped up when he needed you the most and answered our cry for help to get him to the hospital that day.  It will always be a shame we couldn’t stay the family unit we had wanted for him. We certainly tried!  Thank you for letting him live with me, I can’t imagine the heartache of giving him up.

To the friend in my life that gave me focus from day 1 when I asked for help bringing him home … he said something like  “I have the dentist so can’t help you that day, I would if I could but … you’re going to have to get used to handling him and lugging him about on your own, so you may as well just get on with it now”. I thought he was being an unhelpful arse at the time but actually that was the best piece of advice I could have been given. Man up and get on with it.  You can’t turn back time or change anything. You are where you are, so take a deep breath and in the words of Nike - Just do it.

And that we did!
