Dream dog this morning aside from his usual messing around during our morning physio session. He will do better later. He’s always too playful first thing.

I’ve videoed us this morning, so you can feel my frustration first hand!

Read on to see our next video showing our slight improvement during our last physio session of the day. He wasn’t keen on the herbs in his breakfast that the Holistic Vet gave him yesterday. He wouldn’t even eat it if I hand fed him so tomorrow I will instead spread it out into smaller doses across all of his food throughout the day instead of trying to give him the full dose in one sitting! Hopefully that will work!

With the ‘Stop the Leak’ drops having ZERO effect so far on his bladder control (it’s early days), today I’ve decided to have a go at expressing his bladder myself. WHAT?!?!

Gone are the horror thoughts of having to hands on deal with my dogs toilets habits. I’ve been peed on so much this passed week that i’m over the grossness of it all. If I can manage to help him empty his bladder then outings to the hydrotherapist and for his accupuncture will be far less stressful all round. For EVERYONE

I’ve found this video on YouTube so I am about give it a go.

FAILED!

Despite my best efforts in the garden at getting him to pee from my carefully positioned touch it didnt work. Just as I give up and pick him up to carry him in; pee then starts to shoot out mid air. I’m at a loss. Will this ever be something we can control?! I shall keep trying on this one!

After our disasters physio this morning I have worked lots with him this afternoon and this evening. He’s doing really well. He’s still happy to stand for ages outside when he’s distracted but struggling with his concentration indoors. If only we weren’t due major storm ‘Eunice‘ this week, we could have thought about taking our sessions outside. Maybe next week.

‘Uncle‘ Cristian’s Contraption!

Lloris the french bulldog loves all the attention

When my brother visited the furry patient earlier in the week we got chatting about how heavy he is for me to support when practising his standing and how I would like something to clip his back quarters in the air to in order to support his stand. Then we thought about how young children are taught to strengthen and use their legs with a baby bouncer that normally hangs from a door frame and how something along those lines may be of benefit to Lloris????

The very next day Cristian arrived with his version of the ‘Frenchie Rehab Bouncer’

Lloris the french bulldog in a version of a baby bouncer to help with his spinal rehab . Will he walk again?
Rockabye Baby

It’s brilliant! I can adjust the flexible cord to whatever length I want and I can pull down on it and lift up to get him to practise bending and straightening his legs whilst staying supported. I absolutely love it!

It also allows me to do light cycle movements with his legs and to bring his feet up to his belly one at a time whilst standing to get those legs flexing.

Will attempt some footage over the next couple of days!

Lloris however, is not loving it quite as much as me, it’s worn him out. He will sleep well tonight and I will ensure he has a good rest tomorrow. Don’t want to push him too hard too early.

I couldn’t sign off todays post with our terrible morning physio video so we have attempted to improve in one final session of the day.

Don‘t judge him too harshly. He‘s tired and his legs are aching. He can actually do so much better than in this video. Honestly he can!

Still no movement from his own doing though. He and I have had to have a chat this evening about his attitude.

This is supposed to be team work and he’s not pulling his weight. He really needs to knuckle down, concentrate and stop playing around!

I think you can tell from our picture that’s he’s taken my words onboard!

He’s just not taking this seriously is he?? Life is just one big game to a dog! 🙄😆 Come on Lloris, you need to knuckle down and start putting some effort in! Mummy is investing everything into this, literally! ❤️

Loving Cristian’s contraption, and the look on Lloris’s face as he turns to the camera at the end of the morning video is priceless !

THANK YOU’s

Whilst it goes without saying that a big chunk of credit for Lloris’s rehabilitation to being a walking puppy dog again goes unquestionably to him! There have been many helping hands along the way that are more than deserving of a mention …

Thank you to;

Davies Vet (Johnny & Alex) for their remarkable surgery, prompt action and after care. He came home a calm and happy dog…even if his legs weren’t working…his wound has healed remarkably well without scaring.

To Dr Rinnert van den Bergh - The Holistic Vet who never raised an eyebrow at his little accidents and always progressed him further after every treatment.  Lloris is especially grateful for the liver paste you would win him over with!

To Nisha from Paws & Hooves - Hydrotherapy.  You have been remarkable in your patience with Lloris. Thank you for answering the phone when many others didn’t that day.  Finding you was meant to be.

To Willow Vets in Newport Pagnell who took Lloris on as a new case for his cancer straight away and operated within two days. The entire team of staff have been nothing but kind and professional and whilst Lloris will continue to hate you all (hate may be a bit of strong word…. But I’m not so sure?!) I on the other hand think you are all amazing.

To his Uncle Cristian for building his ‘Frenchie Bouncer’ was a big game changer in our rehab!

To his Grandad for building his Pig Pen which he has grown to love

To his Nanny for his the daily love and company not to mention the endless cleaning of him and my house!  We truly couldn’t have got through this without you, you gave me the break I needed to keep my sanity.

To Matt the Chippy for his back door ramp!

To the IVDD Facebook support group.  I learned so much from you. https://www.facebook.com/groups/178483559398659/?ref=share

To my friends and family who reached out to help me. Everyone of you that messaged, read our blog and paid an interest in both his and my well being made such a difference on both the dark days and the light.   Lloris loves people so the visits and gifts all lifted his spirits and snapped him out of the sulks!

To Dan, Lloris’s dad. You stepped up when he needed you the most and answered our cry for help to get him to the hospital that day.  It will always be a shame we couldn’t stay the family unit we had wanted for him. We certainly tried!  Thank you for letting him live with me, I can’t imagine the heartache of giving him up.

To the friend in my life that gave me focus from day 1 when I asked for help bringing him home … he said something like  “I have the dentist so can’t help you that day, I would if I could but … you’re going to have to get used to handling him and lugging him about on your own, so you may as well just get on with it now”. I thought he was being an unhelpful arse at the time but actually that was the best piece of advice I could have been given. Man up and get on with it.  You can’t turn back time or change anything. You are where you are, so take a deep breath and in the words of Nike - Just do it.

And that we did!
